Portuguese Piri Piri Hot Sauce Recipe ( Peri Peri Sauce)
The one and only Portuguese Piri Piri hot sauce recipe ( Peri Peri Sauce). OK now we know that every Country, city, town and small village have their own unique specialty hot sauce. What makes the Piri Piri stand aside from all other spicy sauces is it’s distinctive hot and super spicy vinegary flavor. Made with African bird’s eye chili which packs the heat in this special sauce. If your unable to find this chili you can substitute with any red hot chili from your grocery store.
In North America particular United States and Canada, the sauce of choice is of course Ketchup. The Portuguese instead add this piri piri sauce to everything they eat. It’s drizzled on top of eggs in the morning, splashed on fries and sandwiches at launch and used to marinate chicken, pork, beef and fish for evening dinners. Being married to a Portuguese the past ten years I can tell you there has never been a time when our piri piri sauce was left alone. Funny enough he also bring a bottle when travelling abroad.
Although there are many recipes on the web on how to make your own Piri Piri Sauce, the one below is dear to us as it’s been passed down from my husband’s mother. If you love spicy then I promise you will love this homemade piri piri hot sauce.
