Our easy Italian tiramisu cake recipe without eggs and mascarpone is made using smooth ricotta cheese, heavy whipping cream, vanilla, and amaretto liquor.

I have to say that Italian Tiramisu is one of our families favorite desserts. Smooth and creamy texture bursting with amazing chocolate, amaretto and espresso flavors that is second to none, that’s why we use a smooth ricotta cheese in this recipe to substitute the mascarpone.

I occastionally prepare the tradtional and authentic classic Italian tiramisu cake recipe with mascarpone for my family, but was recently asked by a close friend of mine who suffers from allergies to egg and mascarpone if I would experiment and development an eggless tiramisu without mascarpone.

Since I love challenges, I played around with a few variations of egg free Tiramisu without mascarpone and the results were amazing…after of course….a million tries!

Through trial and error, I tested replacing mascarpone in my original tiramisu recipe with cream cheese, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, Crème Fraiche and Greek Yogurt.

The Results

Ricotta cheese, which I whipped came out at the top out of all my countless tests and out performed all the other cheeses and Greek yogurt but I will say the the cream cheese came very close, so that would be my second pick.

What I loved mostly about using whipped ricotta cheese, was the incredible flavor and creamy texture that it give the tiramisu cake making it identically similar when using mascarpone.

So here it is… my very best version with a twist on an this Italian Classic Tirmasu made without eggs or mascarpone and no fuss easy to follow instructions.

Ingredients For Italian Tiramisu Cake Without Egg And Mascarpone:

  • 2 cups whipping cream 35% (240 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5 grams)
  • 5 teaspoon Amaretto liquor (25 grams) or any coffee liquor
  • 1 small package lady fingers biscuits (200 grams) or 16-20 pieces
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100 grams)
  • 1 container smooth ricotta cheese whipped (9oz or 250 grams)
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder (40 grams)
  • 1 1/2 cup espresso (360 grams) or strong black coffee
  • 1 small pack lady fingers (200 grams) or 16-20 pieces

How To Make Italian Tiramisu Cake Without Egg and Mascarpone?

  1. Add the whipping cream, vanilla and sugar into a mixing bowl with the whisk attachment.
  2. Whip on medium speed until firm stiff peaks are achieved. You can also use a hand mixer.
  3. In a separate bowl whip the ricotta cheese for 2 minutes on high speed or until smooth, light, and airy.
  4. . Fold in the whipped ricotta cheese with the cream mixture using a spatula and set aside.
  5. In a medium-size bowl, add the espresso or coffee and the amaretto liquor and mix to combine.
  6. Submerge each ladyfinger biscuit into the espresso mixture and place them into the bottom of a 7X11 glass baking dish. If you have an 8X8 dish, that will work too.
  7. Deposit half of the cream cheese whipping cream and spread evenly throughout the top of the lady fingers.
  8. Repeat with another layer of soaked lady fingers and cream.
  9. Evenly sift and coat the surface of the tiramisu cake with cocoa powder.
  10. Place into the refrigerator for a least 4 hours.
  11. Serve and enjoy!
