Easy Protein Flan Recipe (Whey Custard)

Ingredients For Protein Flan:
Caramel: | |
Water | 2 tablespoons |
Sugar | 1 cup |
For the Flan: | |
Whole eggs (Large) | 4 |
Evaporated Milk | 1 can (12oz) |
Condensed Milk | 1 can (14oz) |
Whey Protein Isolate Vanilla | 1 Scoop |
Salt | Pinch |
INSTRUCTIONS TO Make Protein Flan:
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Put a small pot of water to boil and keep it simmering until ready to use.
- Caramel:
- Add the star and water into a medium-size and cook on medium heat until sugar starts to carmelize and turn into light brown color about 8-10 minutes.
- Remove caramel from the stove and carefully pour a little amount into ramekins or flanera cups just to fill the bottom.
- Flan:
- Add the evaporated milk, condensed milk, salt, and whey protein into a blender and mix until mixtures are well combined about 1 minute.
- Add the eggs and mix for about 20 seconds.
- Fill each custard cup just below the rim with the flan mixture.
- Place the cups into a large square or rectangular deep tray and place it into the oven.
- Fill the deep dish with the hot water about halfway mark of the flan cups.
- Cook for about 1 hour or until the sides are firm. Stick a toothpick into the center, if it comes out clean then the flan is cooked.
- Remove the oven and set the flan cups onto a wired rack to cook for about 30 minutes.
- Once cooled place them into the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
- Remove the protein flan from the fridge and invert them onto serving plates. If you notice they are stuck to the cups, run a knife along the sides.
