Ingredients For Portuguese Honey Sponge Cake
- 100 grams of all-purpose flour ( 3/4 cups), sifted
- 100 grams of sugar (1/2 cup)
- 85 grams honey (4 tablespoons or 1/4 cup)
- 100 grams (4 large eggs), room temperature
- pinch of salt
How To Make Portuguese Honey Sponge Cake?
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease a cake bundt pan then lightly flour.
- Add the eggs, honey, salt, and sugar into a bowl and beat on high until the mixture is light and fluffy about 8-10 minutes.
- Combine the flour with the egg mixture in three separate portions folding it carefully in a circular motion from the top and working it through the bottom using a spatula.
- Transfer the mixture to the bundt cake pan and bake for 30 minutes or until the internal temperature of the cake reaches above 96°C (205°F). You can also check if the sponge is baked by inserting a toothpick into the center, if it comes out clean, the cake is baked.
- Once the sponge cake is baked remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes before removing it from the cake pan.
- Serve once the cake is completely cooled.
