Here is a scrumptious delectable easy edible cookie dough recipe that will have you licking the left overs in your bowl. Well there is some nostalgia about eating raw unbaked cookie dough right?…. For me, It brings back wonderful memories about me as a child desperately waiting for my mom to finish preparing her yummy chocolate chip cookie dough so that I can stick my finger into the bowl to get a taste of the sweet rich batter she just prepared. Of course back then we weren’t concerned about E.coli or other dangerous bacteria’s that could be present in raw cookie dough batter. We are in a different time now so it is important that we make our edible cookie dough super safe and that start’s off with using heat treated all purpose flour, removing the eggs, milk and baking powder from the recipe leaving just sugar, butter, vanilla extract and yummy inclusions such as chocolate chips as an addition to the recipe.

How to Make Your Edible Cookie Dough Safe to Eat?

Alright, as I explained earlier, in this recipe that were using heat treated flour because to prevent any ratification of e-coli or other pathogens being present in your flour. Although you can use pasteurized eggs, we will not be adding eggs, milk or baking powder to this recipe.

If you can’t find heat treated flour in your grocery store don’t sweet it, here is how you heat treat your flour using a oven or microwave.

How To Heat Treat Your Flour Using A Stove?

  • Pre-heat the oven to 350 F ( 175 C)  
  • In a flat lined 12 inch cookie baking tray, add 2 cups ( 260 grams) of all purpose flour and spread it evenly throughout baking tray
  • Bake for approximately 10 minutes, your flour temperature should reach above 170 F (80 C) on your thermometer.
  • Cool down the flour before using or storing in container.

How To Heat Treat Your Flour Using A Microwave?

  • Add the flour into a microwave safe bowl for 60 seconds followed by intervals of 10 seconds stirring in between until the flour temperature reaches 170 F (80 C).
  • Caution. bowl could be very hot, remove using oven gloves to protect your hands from getting burned.
  •  Cool flour before using or storing inside container.

The ingredients needed in this recipe to make the best edible cookie dough are simple, just flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salted butter or unsalted butter , natural vanilla extract….That’s it!!!

What Are The Steps To Making The Absolute Best Scrumptious Delectable Easy Edible Cookie Dough?

The next step is were all the magic begins and what bakers call the creaming method. The process is super easy and in this recipe were using a planetary mixer like a KitchenAid but you can use any orbiter stand mixer or electrical hand mixer or food processor to achieve perfect results.

Add the salted butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar and with a paddle attached mix on setting 2 for 1 minute then hit it to setting 4 and mix for about 4 minutes or until you see the butter sugar mixture nice and smooth.

Now add in the natural vanilla extract and continue mixing on setting number 2 until it’s well blended and incorporated.

Lastly add in the flour and continue to mix on setting 2 for approximately 30 to 60 seconds or until the edible cookie dough is combined and developed. The batter should be smooth and shiny.

This will be your base edible cookie dough.

Inclusions : To this recipe you can add any inclusions to the cookie dough as you desire, be creative, add your favorites like chocolate chips, smarties, candy sprinkles, jelly beans, coconut.   • 2 teaspoons natural vanilla extract

  • 180 grams all-purpose heat treat flour
  • 150 grams cup salted butter
  • 120 grams brown sugar
  • 80 grams granulated sugar
  • 10 grams natural vanilla extract

Method Instructions:


In a mixing bowl with a paddle attachment add the salted butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar and mix on setting 2 for one minute, then switch to setting four and mix for 4 minutes until mixture is creamy and well combined.

Add in the natural vanilla extract and mix on setting 2 for about one minute until well blended into the mixture.

Add in the flour and mix on second speed just until cookie batter come’s together.

This is your basic edible cookie batter which is perfect just the way it is. If you want to add inclusions now is the time. Your total cookie dough weight is 540 grams. If you wanna add chocolate chips to the batter, scale 150 grams of chocolate chips of your choice and add it to the cookie dough and mix together with a spatula until well combine. You can also just add it the the batter once it’s mixed and mix for additional 10-15 seconds. Remove scoop and enjoy!

You also have the options of dividing your edible cookie dough into two parts and adding different inclusions. If you divide the cookie dough into two your weight will be 270 grams. Add 45 grams (3 tablespoons) of candy sprinkles and mix with a spatula until combine.
