Moist Apple Upside Down Cake Recipe

This moist apple upside-down cake recipe is one of my all-time favorite dessert cakes. It is a moist and soft cake with a rich buttery caramel flavor that makes it the best perfect treat for the holidays or any celebration.

Ingredients
  

UPSIDE DOWN APPLE CAKE BATTER

  • 180 grams all-purpose flour 1 1/2 cups
  • 3 grams salt 1/2 teaspoon
  • 150 grams granulated sugar 3/4 cup
  • 30 grams brown sugar 2 tablespoons
  • 8 grams baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoons
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk (or use almond or oat milk)
  • 8 grams vanilla extract 1 1/2 teaspoon
  • 170 grams salted butter 3/4 cup, melted

APPLE GLAZE

  • 100 grams brown sugar 1/2 cup
  • 60 grams salted butter 4 tablespoons, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 large apples peeled and cut into thin wedges

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 330°F (165°C), and set the oven rack to the middle position. Line the bottom of a 9-inch cake pan with parchment paper.
  • Bottom Glaze – Add the brown sugar and butter into a bowl and mix them together until creamy. You can use a hand mixer if you prefer.
  • Evenly spread the butter mixture into the bottom of the lined cake pan.
  • Spread the mixture evenly in the lined cake pan, then add the apple wedges orientating them in 2 2 concentric circles.
  • Apple Cake Batter – Add the flour, sugar, and baking powder into a large bowl and whisk together.
  • Mix together the mix, vanilla extract, brown sugar, and egg in a bowl then add it to the flour mixture along with the melted butter and whisk or beat until the batter is creamy and smooth.
  • Evenly pour the batter on top of the apples.
  • Place into the oven and bake for about 45-50 minutes or until golden brown. You can check if the cake is baked by inserting a tooth pic, it should come out clean. and springy and a toothpick inserted in the center will come out clean if the cake is baked.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool for 20 minutes in the cake pan.
  • To release the cake from the pan, run a knife along the inside wall of the cake pan, then carefully invert it onto a serving plate.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely for about another 30 minutes.
  • Slice and Serve.
