Original Portuguese Serradura Recipe

Original and authentic, this Portuguese Serradura recipe is made with just 3 ingredients, whipping cream, sweetened condensed milk, and maria cookies referred to in Portuguese as bolacha maria. Serradura, bolacha Maria pudding is one of the most popular Portuguese desserts with maria cookies.

Ingredients
  

  • One package Maria cookies or digestive/tea biscuits
  • 1 can sweeten condensed milk
  • 2 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream

Instructions
 

  • Add the maria cookies into a food processor and pulse until fine crumbs. If you don't have a food processor, place the biscuits in a zip lock bag and crush using the bottom of a cup.
  • Place the whipping cream in a bowl and beat on medium-high until fluffy and light peaks are formed about 5 minutes.
  • Combine the condensed milk and continue to beat until medium-stiff peaks are achieved about 3 minutes.
  • Transfer the whipping cream into a piping bag and snip off the tip about 1/4 inch. Alternatively, you can just use a spoon.
  • Using verinnes, wine glasses, small mason jars, or decorative cups, alternate by adding a little bit of the whipped followed by the cookie crumbs creating 5-7 layers. Start with the whipped cream and end with the whipped cream.
  • Place into the refrigerator and serve as needed.
  • Garnish the Serradura with cookie crumb, cinnamon powder, toasted coconut, nuts, or fruit puree.
