  • Sesame seeds are the heart of the tahini. There are two types of sesame seeds you might find at a bulk store, hulled sesame seeds and unhulled sesame seeds. We prefer the hulled sesame seeds, it will give the tahini a smother texture but you can use either hulled or unhulled.
  • Oil is added to the sesame seeds to give the tahini its creamy texture. You have the option of using any type of oil you wish, Vegetable Oil, Olive oil, Corn oil or Avocado oil. For this tahini paste recipe, we will be using olive oil.

Do You Need To Toast Sesame Seeds To Make Tahini Paste?

You do not need to toast sesame seeds to prepare homemade tahini, but toasting the sesame seeds will give your tahini a nice nutty flavor. The tahini here is made by quickly toasting sesame seeds on a stove top pot, it super fast and takes only 3 minutes.

Ingredients For Homemade Tahini

  • 300 grams hulled sesame seeds ( 2cups)  
  • 60 grams Olive oil ( 4 tablespoons)

How To Make Tahini Paste With A Blender?

  1. Add the sesame seeds into a skillet or wide pot and toast on medium heat for about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool on the side.
  2. Transfer the sesame seeds into a food blender (you can also a food processor) and pulse a few times for 15 seconds scraping the sides and bottom of the blender until the sesame seeds develops a crumbly texture.
  3. Add the oil and process on high for about 4-5 minutes or until the tahini texture is smooth, creamy and pourable.
  4. Pour the tahini into a mason jar, cover and refrigerate.
  5. Enjoy!

The tahini can be store up to 30 days in the refrigerator. Make sure to keep it cover, if you notice some separation just stir with a spoon or give the jar a shake.
